Academic BiographyMy academic research interests focus on the biogeochemistry and land use change. My recent work focuses on human disturbance of dryland ecosystems, wind erosion of soils, and air pollution caused by large regional dust storms. In addition, I have active projects examining the complex issues surrounding the management of forests for carbon sequestration including the use of biomass fuels for electricity generation. I currently am working on behalf of CU Boulder to establish U.S. based hub of the Future Earth Global Secretariat. I am the founding director of the newly created Sustainability Innovation Lab at Colorado (SILC). SILC is a space to co-design and develop the knowledge, capacity and technology to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world and to educate the next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs who will lead this change. SILC seeks to harness the power of academic, government, private and not-for-profit sectors to solve global problems in sustainability.
